People
of pain-filled cookie jars
pack themselves
with sewing needles-
our heart’s sideline defense
(or dignity- or ego)
is scraping our fear
along eachother’s skin
pulling the chain-linked veins
twisting blood
a drop at a time
and a lick of sandpaper
across our thinning lips
