It started with Eve

by Amy Niggel

So February is nearly upon us,
time to think of little hearts,
and pretty shades of red and pink.
Chocolates and flowers.
Another group thinks of red as well
the red of blood,
blood shed,
and blood lost naturally,
blood of child birth,
and childless months.
We will not stop till the violence ends,
this is there conviction,
this is there purpose.
Some giggle at them
they can't believe they use the "V-word"!!
Vagina,
Vagina, Vagina, Vagina!!!
there happy??
Why be afraid of it,
the word or the physical manifestation.
Stories of women
those who have loved it,
those who have hated it,
those who have lost it,
and those who have fought to save it.
It all started with Eve,
she gathered the stories,
she wrote the book,
her work grows every year,
more awareness,
more acceptance,
maybe this year the violence will stop!!
So as February approaches think of this great woman,
and think not only of the little red and pink hearts of Valentine's Day,
but also of the red and white power it is to be a woman!!

Author's Note: I am by no means a social activist, I am not a feminazi either thank you very much. I am not a lesbian or a hard core womens rights activist. But I am a woman. This is written as I am on a 15 minute break during my persuasion class, we are talking about social impact and change. This is one of the best and most persuasive messages out there today. Don't think of this as solicitation, simply suggestion. I have gone to see the Vagina Monologues every year since I was in my senior year in High school, and it is still as worth while to go as ever. If you get the chance go and see this magnificent play, or read the book, or listen to the cassettes of it. The only thing I have to say is go with an open mind and you will not be disappointed!!!! ~Sincerely Amy
