Salt My Wounds

by Jersey D Gibson

Pride has led me down the wrong path for far too long.
But I can't turn back now, so now I must be strong.
I'll continue this path, don't dare tell me that I'm wrong.
This is my life, my choices, and I will sing my own song.

I make mistakes,
don't have to point them out to me.
I'll take a challenge,
if I never try, I'll never succeed.
I won't give up,
what I start, I'll take to the end.
I won't turn back,
haven't you heard a word I've said?

Don't tell me to be my own man, and then tell me what to do.
I'll find out for myself what is right, and what is true.
Don't point your finger when I'm not what you want me to be.
Don't salt my wounds when I break the chain to be free.

I may not be right,
but I'll never take back what I've said.
I may be wrong,
but I'll stand my ground, I'll never flee.
Look at me now,
I'm strong, I'm proud, I'm my own person.
Look me in the eye,
respect isn't given, but don't you think I've earned it?
