Land of the Blue Lagoon

by Oliver Drewman

The cats in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man in the moon
The dog who laughed and the big baboon
And the people who whistle but out of tune
In the funny land of the blue lagoon
Please read the riddles of those ancient runes
"It is a boon" says the silly raccoon
As he races around in his little pontoon
With the motor attached, in the blue lagoon
Whose greeting hello is "See you soon!"
As his boat capsizes in the sudden monsoon
In that wonderful land of the blue lagoon
With the TV rats who watch cartoons
Of little bunny foo foo who turned into a goon
And the multiplying dust bunnies who eat macaroons
(They think they will conquer the island at noon
By having so many ,a horde of, dust bunnies commune
But no one has allergies -they are all immune
Except for the Great Mighty Captain Calhoun
"Who sailed the world" so he ever does croon
"Even to the far side of Cameroon"
Speaks the Captain expactorating in his spittoon
But everyone knows the poor captin's a loon
Because that place is landlocked, landlocked Cameroon)
So the bunnies will fail in their plot of wrack and ruin
To conquer that Island of the Blue Lagoon
With the backwards walking people who greet with "Afternoon"
While wistling their songs, (which are very out of tune)
And the never listing ships which leave all these things marooned
Because they do not fit in the world of sandy dunes
So we leave this island in our diamond balloons
The sugar rats and baseball cats watching their cartoons
And the ever rising presence of that ever full dark moon
That shines upon the water of the Land of the Blue Lagoon

Author's Note: thanks to Jessica, Harry Chapin "Cats in the cradle", the book Goodnight Moon, and that wonderful person who still misses me and reminds me to be silly

A very fun read. Great rhythm and rhyme here.
