All That Glitters Is Not Gold

by Holly H Dunne

One day a girl found a pile of beautiful glittering jewels. She picked them up and began to walk home. On the way a few fell out of her hands and rollled away. Deeply upset, she she sat down and began to cry, but then she remembered she still had the other jewels so she got up and continued walking home. Then it began to rain and she hugged the jewels to her to protect them. After the rain stopped, she opened her hands to check the jewels. A sight of horror befell her. the rain had melted some of the jewels and they stained her skin with burning scars. Distraught, she gazed at the mess and pain, thinking she had lost all the jewels and none had been real. Then she noticed a few, still glittering as brightly as ever, still beautiful. They withstood the rain and did not melt: they were real jewels. On the surface, the fake jewels had seemed real, but when challenged with hardship, they were shown to be false. But the real jewels will bring beauty into her life forever, and when she looks at her reflection in the jewels, she is as beautiful as they are.

Real friends are hard to find and if you mistake shallow selfish people for real friends, they'll slash your heart open and write hate messages on your face with the blood, leaving your real friends to clear it up.

Thank you to my three best friends Angie, Niamh and Paddy.
