Phoenix Wings

by Cymbre Dolphay

Wings of light
of brightly burning flame
spread wide across the sky
an unharnessed spirit
so wild and living free
has caught this mortal eye

A kindness, sweet and pure
so like to the sun
and it's gently glowing rays

But those wings are bound
by tightly winding chains
that cause my heart to break

I long to rid you of that burden
to sever all your earthly bonds
just to see you flying free
but I lack that power and strength

That spark that I love
that neverending flame
is what shall remain behind

Although the body will turn to ash
the fire shall live forever
