The Nativity

by Paul Little

The Nativity

The Nativity is now a novelty
The birth of Christ is now a play
Performed by children at Christmas
To young to understand
The significance of the event
Too blinded by consumerism to care.

They are victims of the marketing men
Not caring for religious themes
Only wanting the latest toys and games
Whatever this year’s must have is
It’s what Christmas is all about
Isn’t it?

And so what of Easter
All but forgotten by most
Save for the chocolate eggs
And the imaginary rabbit.
God forgive that we remember
The sacrifice that he made.

But who is really to blame
When it all comes down
The parents, the teachers,
The purveyors of goods
Or maybe you and I?
God only knows.

I do follow your thoughts here..and I guess we are all a little guilty.. I do like the statement of faith in this!
