The American Dream by Jersey D GibsonPeace sells, but who's buying?
Freedom costs, but who's dying?
Life's hard, but who's trying?
Goverment's great, but who's lying?
Speeches are free, but who's writing?
War's no good, but who's fighting?
Street's are safe, but who's hiding?
Heaven's a hook, but who's biting?
Hey man, look at you,
living free in the American Dream.
You haven't earned it,
selling drugs under the American Dream.
Run across that border,
being protected by the American Dream.
Go and beat the system,
at the expense of the American Dream.
Salute our flag, but you don't.
Sing our song, but you don't.
Earn your way, but you don't.
Become a citizen, but you don't.
Complain about your liberties, but you haven't earned them.
Violate your own rights, but you haven't learned them.
Cops come after you, sucker sure has deserved them.
But now those days are gone, I bet you have yearned them.
Hey, man, what do you see,
some idiot trying to live the American Dream.
Hey, man, who are you?
Your green card expired with the American Dream.
Hey, man, don't come to complain,
I was once a good cog in the American Dream.
Now it's gone, what do you do?
like to see you survive without the American Dream. 12/15/2002 Author's Note: Poem Of The Month! March2005
