Passing the Day

by Beth K Hannah

You are that 3:13 wake up
That plagues me til mid-afternoon
You are what twists my spine
So I can't stand straight
You are that afternoon buzz
That dies slowly about six.
You are what electrifies me
And sends shockwaves to innocent bystanders.

I considered the following:

1. Time is fleeting
(as is your skin)

2. I am only human
(unlike your eyes)

3. My dreams could be lies
(desires are the key)

The pros weigh like the cons
Pulling out their guns
Shooting me down
Where do I find the trigger?
