A Love Mourned Long

by Ken Harnisch

On the beach, the boy lost a penny

And the tide rushed in to claim

Both Sand and Fortune

In its wilding way.

And when the beach was clean,

And when the tide had ebbed,

The boy fell to his knees

Finding and discarding

Diamonds, grace, and gold

But not his penny

And he grieved forever

A copper in the sand

Very well said.... Vividly real. I wonder how many do just that, let all else go for that copper in the sand, when it too is unatainable.
