Conversation with a Cat

by Cathlyn Cartier

I caught myself doing it today,
Talking to you like you understand,
Like you really care,
Like you know the thoughts in my head
and somehow possess the wisdom to answer my problems.

You just peered at me through half-closed eyes,
Giving me a look of cool disdain,
As you licked your paw and flicked your tail,
As if to say
“I can’t be bothered with your petty worries.”

As you sit upon your throne, surveying your kingdom.

Your throne on my sweater, on my sofa, in my house….
You aren’t even my damn cat!

There I go, doing it again….

Author's Note: She's actually my sons' cat, I only tolerate her presence for their sakes.

Yeah sure! We know who's running the show, hehehe! The most interesting part is that this poem was written to the cat. I love it...and cats. Peace...

Don't feel bad, I talk to myself a lot. At least you can say someone or something was listening to you. Good writing my friend.

That, my friend, is what cats are FOR.
