Let me fly

by Patricia J Reed

Today
As I fly home
I think of you
Grandpa
I think that this time
You won't be there
Like you were the last time
Hurting
But smiling through the pain
And trying not to bother us
Then I remember
When you first got sick
And how I wanted to make you feel better
So I wrote you a poem
Feeble
But I sent it anyway
And you fought
You fought the deadly cancers that darkened you
And in my presence you'd smile
It made me feel better
But today
As I soar above the limiting ground
In a 747
And glimpse a piece of heaven
That you now own
I wonder
If by chance
My feeble attempt
To let you know that you are loved
Changed a single day
Of the rest of your life
And outside of the window
The sun shined on a brief tear from a cloud
And you smiled at me
As a rainbow stretched 'cross the sky

Ohhhhhh!!! I really like this one Patti. Wonderful imagery and a very sentimental message. Bravo! I especially enjoyed the finishing touch in the last line. Peace...
