Scrap the Bird! (turkey challenge)

by Rhodora M Fitzgerald

Scrap the Bird!

Family, family... do come in
and let the feast begin.
The table's set, the candles burn
and we've blessed the food... Amen!

Now, You won't find on this table
the trimmings of Thanksgivings past,
but you will find that we have made
some menu changes at last.

The salad's not been tossed
and there is no cranberry sauce!
There are no mashed potatoes,
but all is not a loss...

To build yourself a sandwich
you'll find everything you need,
from ham and roast beef slices
to buns with seseme seed.

Build it high with lots of cheese
and use the condiments as you please.
Add the vegies in between... then...
give your creation a gentle squeeze.

And now it's time to spread some cheer.
Please pass around the ice cold beer-
And in case you haven't noticed...
there's something I must make clear.
Maybe you didn't realize,
but there won't be a "Tom" this year!

I know you have to wonder,
"Why this sudden change in menu"?
But here's a thought to ponder
as you build your double-decker,
Do you really want to eat something.....

that eats with it's pecker????
