Me, Myself, and the Epiphany

by Beth K Hannah

I say myself in a sunrise
Heard my voice in a window pane
Saw my eyes in a slammed door
Noticed my body in my car
And realized this to be true

I ran for the bell
Hoping to stop you still
I ran for the prize
Hoping to not to win, but to succeed
I pushed away myself for the light
And fell away from my Epiphany

I find myself to be more of a girl
More of a catalyst,
More of a feminist,
Toting Cosmopolitan
I keep hoping I am an original
But know I am just another

I learned how to tread lightly
To smile and not react
I learned to keep myself down
And that I am never to be pretty
Yet, can't a girl yearn?

I hold myself evident to the breaking glass
The footsteps
The music that I embrace
The fact that I am a republic unto myself
And not even the sea could change that.

Author's Note: Mmm...very on the spot here. Very quickly written. Will revise and edit someday.
