The days

by Oliver Drewman

The first day
God said "Let there be light"
Bursting forth from the very words
Separated it from the dark night
And it was good
The second day
God said "Let the firmaments divide"
In His hand the oceans roar
The heavens above, and beneath the tide
And it was good
The third day
God said "Let land and plants appear"
Tall green oaks, warm dark soil
The growing living biosphere
And it was good
The fourth day
God said "Let there be sun, moon, and stars"
These patterned and pinpointed lights
Guiding the seasons, time's reservoirs
And it was good
The fifth day
God said "Let birds and fish be"
To soar in the air, to soar neath the sea
And it was good
The sixth day
God said "Let us make animals and man"
One to rule, one to creep upon the land
This is how it began
And it was good
The seventh day
God said "Today is sanctified for rest"
Set apart we are to follow
This example it is best
And it was very good
