Wrapping Paper by Gabrielle L GervaisIts hard enough to speak.
And you ask for tears
An outloud cry
So you can feel more comfortable
With sadness.
to wrap it all up
and beam for you.
I used all my energy on that initial scream
of lonely autumn.
I widen my lips and not even breath comes out.
And it awakens the depression
of your heartfilled worrybrow.

Posted by Richard Paez on 11/13/02 at 10:12 PM Gabrielle, this poem does an astounding job of defining swallowed desperation. The title and subtle image of gift-wrapping one's own pained silence is chillingly appropriate. And the last line wraps it up perfectly (pardon the pun). Bravo! A great first read for me. |
