Wrapping Paper

by Gabrielle L Gervais

It’s hard enough to speak.
And you ask for tears…
An outloud cry
So you can feel more comfortable
With sadness.
to wrap it all up
and beam for you.
I used all my energy on that initial scream
of lonely autumn.
I widen my lips and not even breath comes out.
And it awakens the depression
of your heartfilled worrybrow.

Gabrielle, this poem does an astounding job of defining swallowed desperation. The title and subtle image of gift-wrapping one's own pained silence is chillingly appropriate. And the last line wraps it up perfectly (pardon the pun). Bravo! A great first read for me.
