Fate

by Stephanie Myers

From here to eternity I wander,
Aimlessly,
Looking and waiting,
For what,
I do not know.

From here to my destiny,
I wade through shallow waters,
Drowning and saving myself,
To rescue my soul.

I need a break from my reality,
From my mortality,
And morality.
I need a reason to keep going,
To keep rowing,
And slowing down.
My mind hurts,
My muscles ache.

Onward I trot,
Watching my surroundings.
The wind to my back,
Pushing me forward,
My fear holding me.

Crossed eyes and jagged teeth,
I’m not afraid,
More afraid of myself,
Than themselves.
Of what is to come,
Or not to come.
If it does,
I will not recognize it.

From here,
I say to myself,
Eternity is forever,
Destiny can be changed.
Fate can be avoided,
So, when they come,
I’ll accept it.
