Around the world in a tea bag

by Anne Howe

I have a little tea bag

It’s flat and square, with strings

Mixed with water in a teapot

To me such joy it brings

There’s green tea and there’s black tea

Herbal, Assam and Earl Grey

A tea for every mood, in fact

Well, so the adverts say.

Camomile to send us off to sleep

Peppermint to give us pep

Good old fashioned PG tips

With fish and chips is best

Some Lancashire folk like their tea stewed

Well, it was brewed but left to stand

And those little Tetley Tea Bag Men

Just think that this is grand

I took a trip to India

Inside the health food store

Chai, all spiced up and decaff too

And it had traveled more

Sold in an Australian shop

By New Zealand packers packed

It also came through Germany

Now, what do you think of that

I love my cup of Indian chai

Blended from ‘local and imported products’

I sniff and conjure up

………………. A journey around the world in a tea bag

I'd love to travel just a few of the places your tea bag has gone on it's journey to your cup! Lovely poem!

Great subject matter, and wrapped in a fun-filled verse to boot. Nice work Anne. Peace...

Good poem Annie. I am a total teatotaler, tea I never drink. But my wife collects tea pots, she has about 50 or sixty. Mostly Fitz and Floyd. ....Charlie
