king-born (i am but a hunter-farmer) by Richard Paezahh, Ive reached that perfect point (the point becomes a drop the drop becomes a smear) where the liquid in my veins becomes the liquid of my pen and the whole world ~ flows ~ and the whole world ~ grows ~
i am but a farmer my place is with the soil i ~sow~ seeds from unmarked packages and when spring comes i eat like a king-born ahh, pierced by that perfect point (the point becomes a wound the wound that heals the world) now i can scribe in a red that never truly fades and the whole world ~ spreads ~ blanketed in ~ red ~
i am but a hunter my place is in the trees i ~seek~ prey in shaded pastures and where my arrow falls i am king-born ~
hoof-root to arrow-plow drip-dripping and red-tipped every drop a little promise-smeared where i sow i am harvested where i eat i am killed and tomorrow, i'll be reborn resurrected, king-born
10/30/2002 Author's Note: After reading Mark's "Why do I RHYME?' I got to thinking why any of us do any of this at all, and one thing lead to another, and here we are. The "wound that heals the world" was inspired by Joseph Campbell's 'A Hero with a Thousand Masks,' especially the capters on the World Navel, and its importance in mythology and the universal subconscious.

Posted by Bethany Lee on 10/31/02 at 01:12 AM i thoroughly enjoyed this piece...brought out the amazon in me...but, idunno, it just didn't seem complete to me...and unfinished story...lines that should go on...i didn't get a climax out of this one, though it was enjoyable foreplay...forgive the sexuality of the comment, but i think it best describes my point...and i agree with tissi in that it should be brought to the forefront of your library walls. |
Posted by David R Spellman on 11/03/02 at 03:55 PM Excellent in its imagery and metaphor. And we are lucky to have it sown amongst us. |
Posted by Betania Tesch on 11/03/02 at 08:52 PM and in the end there is always the potential of more...upon reaching the "point" we see the meaning and the hope (or I wish it to be so) |
Posted by JD Clay on 11/04/02 at 03:38 PM Ahhh! The laws of nature at rest. While Joseph Campbell is truly one I would invite to dinner (although he has transitioned), you have earned a seat at the same table, malachi. Salute! |
