love poem for a flame daughter

by Betania Tesch

when you are touching water
you will sizzle
and your nature will resist.
when you are starving
for oxygen you will dim and flicker,
but fire is everpresent
in its possibility
in the sparks and
the electricity of living.
you are have dangerous potential
and illuminated allure
so do not allow yourself
to be fooled into thinking
that rainyfellows or airydays
can overtake you with their
temporary sadness.
You are stronger than flame,
than light, than darkness.
You control all of them, sisterdaughter,
within your head.
When you are touching water
you will sizzle
but you will not
go
out.
