envy the blanket by Bet YeldemIn the dawning of the day
I bear witness
to a majestic sunrise --
soft tangerine circle
cradled by rough mountain peaks.
Golden rays turn
my brown eyes to honey.
This desert life is too dry.
At this quiet moment,
you are soundly sleeping
to the lullaby of raindrops,
resting in sweet secret dreams
of deep purple hues
unknown to the eyes of men
as the tide rolls in the distance.
I long to be
wrapped around you --
as close as your own skin --
in the dark of your room,
rather than enveloped
by this cloudless azure sky.
I close my eyes to see you there
and
envy the blanket
that gets to keep you warm.
