The Man by Dana E BrossardHe sat there in the quiet of the night,
Far from any city or populated land.
His back resting against a giant oak.
He watched the snow slowly falling down,
His breath crystalize in the cool air.
The peaceful song of the wind and cold.
His armor, battle worn and beaten,
Still gleamed thru age old care.
The mark of a Lilly still showed true.
His sword lain across his lap,
It's scabbard cracked and old.
Yet shown with a faint blue light.
The sting of the cold brought forth memories,
Of good times and a life well lived.
No regrets and peaceful soul.
Deep in the night that man passed away,
The owl and the wolf his company.
No tomb to mark him, one with the land. 10/21/2002 Posted on 10/21/2002 Copyright © 2025 Dana E Brossard

Posted by Leandra K Brossard on 10/21/02 at 08:32 PM This piece is beautiful... It is solemn yet hopeful.. It is very different from what I have seen in your other work, more peaceful and insightful... Marvelous... I love it... :) |
Posted by Lizz Scott on 11/27/02 at 07:04 PM I really enjoyed reading this poem. It reminded me of the Keats poem, "La Belle Dame sans Merci". Your imagery is wonderful. I could see the man and his armor. Excellent poem! |
Posted by Maureen Glaude on 12/02/03 at 03:15 PM I think this poem should be world-renowned and endure forever, in history. It moved me more than anything I've read in ages, perhaps, ever, and I can see it on walls and in the annals of mankind's best. Unforgettable. I have a few to print up today, of yours, indeed. |
