Aurora Borealis

by Jon-Jacob F Deal

Once, as a child,
I stood outside and
Shivered in the snowy
Dark; face upturned,
Young eyes straining
To catch a glimpse
Of what kept the
Whole block out
In the cold that night;
A glorious, shimmering,
Sinuous veil of emerald
Fire, or so they say;
I never saw.
