Endless

by Ginette T Belle

One day I woke up to find the sun blinding my eyes,
and it found me spread lazily on a down-filled bed.

Pajamas damp and wrinkled, close to my skin
with my weary face nuzzled, still astounded from sleep.

It had slid my warm blanket onto the scattered floor,
laying in a puddle around me, dead at my feet.

It made me feel safe and loved with tingling expectation
Lost in a popcorn ceiling I see my future clear

Smell of scented wax and last night's supper
An easy consistency that melts in my brain

One day I woke up to find the sun glaring at my soul
Laying anxiously on my pillow

It often wonders why it always finds me this way
Why every awe-inspiring morning fails to inspire me
