And Now I Know

by Ken Harnisch

And now I know

The secret that we never speak;

The kisses that go untasted,

Though they are longed for;

The union that becomes but

A shining dream we have on lonely nights.

You tell me

I am with you in the bower of another’s arms

And I reply: you are mine,

In the embrace of my loveless

Bed, the one that you make whole

With a vision, an eternal flame,

That I keep of you in my heart.

My nights are cool and uninvolved;

My spirit drawn and thin.

But you float across my dreams

And incite my passion

As now, you tell me, I have

Incited yours.

I always wondered, love.

And now I know.
