Demons Buffet

by Lori I Wolfe

A fire burns with amber glow

As shadows danced into the night

Ghostly figures peek through the trees

Their faces a brilliant white

Eyes of red balls of fire

Watch as you’re passing by

The smoke rising higher and higher

Now covering stars in the sky

All Hollows Eye has come again

To give you a spine-chilling fright

Ghouls and goblins crawl out of bed

To tease you for the night

Now Edmond walked through the woods

Making his way back home

When the trees seem to come alive

And began to sway and moan

Creatures slithered across the ground

Reaching for his feet

Sweat poured from his flesh

As his body began to heat

He starts to run for the light

That’s glowing up ahead

Unknowing what awaits for him

The Evils of the undead

An iron fence opens up

To let Edmond in

Laughter oozed out of the ground

Which set his head to spin

Edmond stumble on to a grave

Lost in terrors domain

His eyes searching all around

While his mind goes insane

Behind him stood a tombstone

That read “you better beware

For if you step upon my grave

I will take you into my lair”

Edmond shrieked and tried to move

As hands pushed through the soil

Dragging him into the earth

Forced him to embroil

Breaking free from the claws

That tried to steal his soul

Attempting to clear his mind

He tried to gain control

Running fast into the dark

Struggling to escape

Getting tangled in the trees

As shadows began to shape

Hooded beasts with flaming stares

Appeared in front of him

Blackened cloaks floating by

Making hope quite grim

Blazing eyes watched with delight

As Edmond kicked and screamed

Laughter floated in the night

Inside this hellish dream

They took him to the center of hell

And dumped him by the flames

The pot was filled with boiling oil

“A feast!” They proclaimed

Edmond had to think real fast

Before they made him stew

He had to get away from them

But didn’t know what to do

The leader of this evil ring

Came by to take a look

He poked Edmond in the belly

Then conversed with the cook

An argument began to brew

Over how he should be fried

Pushing and shoving between the two

As all the others cried

“Hit him here and punch him there!”

As they crowed around

They left Edmond all alone

Face first into the ground

“Now is my chance!” Edmond thought

Slowly slinking away

He cleared the trees as they fought

Running from the Demon’s Buffet

The leader won the fight

Basting they’d do first

Marinade would soften his skin

To quench the Demons thirst

But when they turned to get their prize

They found that it had fled

The leader screamed and kicks the pot

As his eyes burned deeper red

Edmond ran out of the trees

Crashing through his door

Locking up to keep him safe

He then fell to the floor

He pressed his hand to his heart

To calm the rapid beat

He made a pledge into the night

To never eat red meat

Safe from harm he climbed the stairs

Then headed off to bed

He gave thanks onto the Lord

For helping him keep his head
