Five Feet Until Tomorrow by Matt ForgetWake up and look around
Take your time to realize
Everything you see at first
Is only a figment
Quckly to disappear
Rub you eyes opened wide
Realize where you are
Five feet off the ground
Decisions to get out of bed
Failing miserably as I lay back down
Twenty minutes woken up
Voices in my head
"Get out of bed!"
Falling five feet to pain
Cursing as I fall.
Grab my clothes and go wash
Try to clean the sleepiness away
Whiten the teeth
Smell artificially fresh
For my long day ahead
Make it to class seconds to spare
Find a seat to sit in
Eventually the second best place than bed
Learning the same old stuff on a different day
Dreaming of a nap on the beach
Time for lunch
As I squabble out of class
Making my way to energy
Fulfilling my lost supply
After falling out of bed
Back to class I go
For another exciting lecture
Only to be surprised
I didn't get enough sleep
Conking out once more
My classes finally over
I go back to my room
Throw my stuff down
Pick up the phone, call my friends
"Let's go out! Have some fun!"
Twelve midnight comes around
Gone home to bed
Sleep again
Until the morning
For the next five foot fall. 09/23/2002 Author's Note: A typical college day for me! :)

Posted by Amanda J Cobb on 11/10/02 at 06:37 AM Typical college day for lots of us! Mine's not a 5-foot fall (I have the un-lofted bed), but it might as well be when I have 8:00 classes. I enjoyed this poem very much, well done. :) |
