A Hike to Humbles

by Matt Forget

Place behind you

The memories of the past

Only to pursue

Thoughts of the future

Look in front of you

See your tracks

The trails you see

All overgrown

Left and right

Walls of  brush

Once entered

Never to come out again

Beware above and below

As the enemy may approach

Bite or claw

Protecting their sacred lands

Stay not long

For if too long

Never again

Will you return.

I really liked the last four lines. Nice poem!
