by the candlelight of day

by William P Strucke

Isolated, in a world of despair
I have nowhere to turn
but this cathode-ray tube on a desk
my room feels cold and I feel
itchy with dissatisfaction -
How could a life so promising
turn out so barren?
Again I'm alone
lying on an unmade bed
the cat seems to notice me
and run away
The darkness of daylight envelopes me
a candle burning in the distance
casting dim shadows of my life.
motionless if left be
I move my belongings around to pass the time.
eternity seems so long
when you're by yourself.
