Tears For 9/11

by Charles M Harrison

The events of that awful day
still anger my heart.
For there was so much
torn forever apart.
I still mourn to this day
for the loss some have to carry.
Of the people, working, playing,
traveling, just being ordinary.
But I shed not tears of sorrow,
tears of fear, or tears of pain.
Those tears fell at first
to earth, like a sad rain.
I shed tears of hope and pride
for the spirit in us all.
For even though we were battered,
we stumbled but did not fall.
To see the love brought forth
from many a distant land.
Spread through all the world
by the darkest deed of man.
To see so many people
filled with so much good.
doing for their fellow man
what some thought they never could.
I shed tears when I see
this great nation awakened.
It's people holding dear once more
foundations once forsaken.
My heart fills with pride
for the people of this land.
Once more I thank our god
that I was born an American.
9/11 for me now holds
no more sorrow or pain.
It holds for me the belief
that we found ourselves again.
