Ode to Late Summer

by Howard F Farewell

My life
What has it truly become?
Waking up at a daily late-summer noon
And sitting in front of a monitor
With John Belushi on the wall staring back in encouragement
700 plus tracks
Racing away each minute keeping the time
Like the pendulum of an old grandfather clock
But in the new age modern digital
I’ve hit a pause again
More dead space
And no place for ventilation
All sorts of things trapped up inside
Never letting themselves go
Creating twitches of insanity
Coursing through like the blood that should
Still searching for a springboard
Something to give a proverbial jump-start
All over again
