Year Of A Thousand Dances by Corey DroverYou know that feeling you get
when pride stands achingly on your shoulder
That feeling when you remember your
greatest follies all at once
We walked together and talked it too
Ate together and played together
just like children in the grass
And then your life went on and how true
that it was your life, not ours that went on from that august morn
In many ways so did mine and I've
spent my time dancing and romancing
just as I'm sure you have
Experienced life's marvels from the
complexity of love to the simplicity of
the dewey morning sun
And growing old while growing young
Some of them were true but many are just
nameless faceless glimmers of time
from the continuing moments afterward
A phone number here and a back alley
liason there while my engines were
driven with rum
I suppose I can't complain about things
since they have truly been fun while they lasted
but I can't help but muse over the fork in the road
I was forbidden by fate to travel
I'd trade my life for nothing but the chance to be sixteen
and slow dancing to some song nobody remembers and when
they do won't admit liking if their life depended on it
with her instead of passing that future by again
For that I would trade a year of a thousand dances and a
million stolen kisses with everyone else
For that and nothing more
