Notes

by Kitty Ness

You are my drug of choice
An addict will always remember

You are my broken clock
Stopped keeping time and still keeping me

You are my mistake
The consequences of which reverberate through my bones

You are my song
With no melody, lyrics, or sound

You are my scar
And future cuts of skin

You are my dreams
And all of you is me

This very personal poem manages to hit on an emotional level. Ain't it funny, how the ones that hurt us most deeply are the ones we tinker with in our minds the most? I have to agree with Ms. Ferriera that the turn of phrase "stopped keeping time and still keeping me" is really well done--it probably makes the poem. Glad this piece was brought to my attention.

I'd just like to echo the thoughts of Allan and Carolyn. Very simple but profound.

"drug of choice" rings in my ears everytime that I read this one..... Funny the way we choose to beat ourselves up sometimes, isn't it? Great poem Kitty!

The comparisons and metaphors you set up in this deceptively short piece are very powerful. I agree with previous commentors, the line "stopped keeping time and still keeping me" is one of the best in the whole thing. Very well done, emotional and beautiful. Nice work.

An astounding piece of work Kitty - cuts deep - honesty and pain are sometimes sadly kindred flames - thanks so much for sharing :)
