Razor-Sharp Truth

by Anne Engelen

The moments shared
The hours on the phone
Words spoken by you
touching me to the bone

You opened my eyes
to the awful lies
I was telling myself

Self-abuse
What a pitiful excuse
for not dealing with the truth

Harsh words
thrown in my face
like razor-sharp blades
leaving their trace

But your love, so strong
pointed out where I went wrong

Not what I wanted
but so much what I needed to hear
Upon that I took a first step
I asked for help
and set aside my fear

This was so real I winced... the last two verses brought it home... incredible poem.

I like it, how true we often need others to tell us what we already know but are afraid to face thanks

It takes a REAL friend to give you the advice you need and not just fill your head full of the things you "want" to hear. Great piece.. love the title!

I like it. Things people need to say... but no one wants to say them... so true! Great job!
