Dove Morning

by Amanda Conlogue

I wake to the rain
slithering down the roof
dripping off the eaves
and the light is dove grey
fluttering its wings against
windowpanes in this early morning
the sheets slide against my skin
at the slightest movement, I press
my face into the pillow
and smell you there, musky sweat
sandalwood and citrus cologne
I dream about it, your hands
and mouth on my body
the way your scent lingers
on my skin, soon, I'll have to
rise and step into the shower
wash away all your reminders
but for now, I'm content
to listen to the rain, admire
the softness of morning light
to lie in the coccoon of your arms
and breathe you in.
