dead flowers

by Emily G Myers

the flowers you gave me
the ones I wore on my wrist
they’re starting to crinkle
brown
shrivel
taking up space in my fridge
still I keep them
in remembrance of you
perhaps in hopes that one day
they’ll come back to life
be just as fresh as the day you gave them
deep down I know
that will never happen
