My Inheritance

by Angel J McRae

I iherited my short petite body from my mother.
I inherited my need to laugh and smile from my father.
I inherited my golden auburn luscious hair from Treseme.
I inherited my big ugly birthmark from my big scary grandpa.
I inherited my golden complexion spotted with freckles from the sunbather I once was.
I recieved the freckle in my eye from a drunken angel that missed my cheek.
And I inherited my hazel eyes from the mixture of color the world expressed when I was created.

I inherited my sense of style from the beauty magazines.
I inherited my love to write from the me inside who was never seen.
I inherited my mathematic skills from the teacher who never let me quit.
I inherited my skepticism from those who crushed my dreams.
I inherited my appeal from those who use to tease.
I inherited my selfishness from the boy who always stole my cookie.
And I inherited the barrier to my mishappen heart by the boy who shattered it to pieces.

My qualities, my faults, did not just appear from nowhere,
Each characteristic given to me to make me, me.
