My Greatest Fault

by Charles M Harrison

You knew it all right from the start
I told you what was in my heart
Everything that was there,
But I never knew, did you care?

To you, I never told a lie
To hurt you would be to die
The mere thought brings a tear to my eye
For me, did you ever cry?

I took my heart and held it out,
Knowing the danger that was about
Because within I had no doubt
Did you ever tell me, did you shout?

I did this because, I thought of us
I did this because, I knew I must
I did this because, in you I trust
Why did you throw it in the dust?

Now I place it back within
Knowing that hurt, that pain agian
The one that never seems to end
I thought I had found, a true friend.

I know I am the one to blame
For my own sorrow, and pain
I trusted before I even knew your name,
Or asked if you even felt the same.

That is my greatest fault, I guess
To find a friend I have no test,
But to give my heart, and hope for the best
And pray for someone unlike the rest.
