To an Air Hostess

by Richard Vince

Your luminous smile removed
The darkness of the never ending
Imprisonment above the clouds.

Your caring manner never failed
To bring a smile to my face
And a song to my heart,
Along with food to the
Tray table in front of me.

And I wanted to say
Thank you for making this
Trying experience a lot more
Survivable than it could have been.

But now we are nearing the end
Of our time together in this
Capsule of time and being
Suspended miles above the Earth,
And I find myself slightly
Dreading the thought of not
Seeing you again.

Perhaps I will be allowed
To hope that my return journey
Will be similarly brightened
By your smile that is
Made of the pure sunshine
That is only found above the clouds.

But in case such hopes
Will not come to fruition,
Just let me now thank you
For making my life slightly
Better, and for doing the same
To so many others.
