The Seventh Second

by Beth K Hannah

I watch you in my distance
The way the sun hits your eyes
And the way you turn your head away
I feel my heart stop
And slowly turn over

My mystery hero stalks me in my sleep
He conquers any demons in my subconsious
He battles my dragons for the prize
He has not failed me
Or stopped me from moving and going

My knight in blue armour
Is my paradox
The window I look out of
I feel his breath in my own
I can imitate his haunting looks
And sway to the sound of his voice

My mystery man in not
In my real world
He faces no dragons or demons
He has no factual purpose to
Not fail me
Or stop me or let me go

Somewhere in the six seconds before
I realize reality and dreams are not alike
Everything fits like a puzzle
And I see his true form
And he sees mine
And he forgets on the seventh second
Forcing me to move on.

Have I told you that I like this one? B/c I do...it's just, well, it's just. We'll leave it at that.
