Hurts Remembered by Charles M HarrisonHurts remembered from times gone by
can still bring a tear to your eye.
Even childhood teases and taunts
the distant corridors of our mind still haunts.
There they wait and bide their time
like criminal who contemplate crime.
Until we think all is peaceful and serene
they arise from within like a haunting dream.
Once again we are a little one
a shy daughter, or an insecure son.
Once again we feel the words sharp sting
while in our mind the alarm bells ring.
No matter how old, no matter what stage
we can be bent, and wrinkled with age.
We can still feel the pain as if new
pain that courses inside all through.
Words can cut deeper than any knife
they leave scars that will last all your life.
I know the scars deep within me
ones I hide away so no one can see.
Since I know this pain is oh so real
I know how words can make another feel
Only words of kindness will I try to say
to those who happen to come my way. 07/02/2002 Posted on 07/02/2002 Copyright © 2024 Charles M Harrison
