sobbing in your sleep

everyone is already there, but he cries out to you
you alone understand his pain, and tears run down your face
you tell him everything's okay
as you inch closer to him
you try to reason with him
you even say you love him
he's crying now too and says he loves you back
he tells you it's not your fault
he says "it's those fucking sons of bitches!"
you're still telling him to come down
begging, even pleading
but your cries go unheard
as he jumps from the roof***
you awaken and realize that you were sobbing in your sleep again
weeping over your own weakness
