Captive Memories

by Charles M Harrison

There is no way to express our loss
and our feelings of grief.
It is only our faith in God's great love
that can bring us some relief.
We will never know why
God allows the suffering of man.
We can only hope it is all
part of his great plan.
We are left with captive memories
of the one that was so dear.
We wrap our thoughts around them
and in our hearts hold them near.
Though we now feel sorrow
because we must say goodbye,
As long a they are remembered
they will never really die.

*Written in memory of Dean Barefoot, my cousin who died from brain cancer
