Earnhardt

by Charles M Harrison

Sundays you could hear the roar
when they called his name.
The greatest NASCAR driver
who ever played the game.
We would watch him climb aboard
his black and silver steed.
To fly around the oval
with grace and daring speed.
To one he was a husband
to four he was a dad.
To a few other people
the best friend they had.
To fans, the Intimidator,
man in black, number three.
The best damb driver
that this sport will ever see.
The other drives knew
when they ran each race.
Ironhead was the one to beat
if they wanted to take first place.
He was the best of the best
on and off the track.
Lord we wish there was a way
that you could bring him back.
