Bumped From The Throne by Corey DroverThe irony of it all
No longer king of my world
A fair queen has taken my place
Many years have passed
since the lady entered my castle
I couldn't explain why
I felt no need to expel her
Perhaps it was love
One sweet word from her lips
was enough to make me send
the wrathful armies against even
the most innocent of men
The jester dances foolishly
to distract me from her bewitching ways
The advisors tell me not to pursue
for damage is all that may come
So subtle her machinations
that I did not bear witness
to her slowly furthering her way inside me,
burrowing like an animal in the ground
Conversely her efforts were minimal
She was not trying intentionally
to be won over, it was just nature
I hadn't even spoken of my thoughts
My dereliction of duty will not go unanswered
I'm waiting for a different kind of glory
The kind that sees love give herself
over to me freely, body and soul
I flaunt my plumage in an attempt
to champion my cause to this royal to be
I've sent the ivory knight to fight
the white serpent and held grand
parades in her honor
I've arranged a symphony to be written
The maestro is a madman
He helped none
Her heart is mine but also that of another
While still with him I shall cherish
the possibilities of the future
Today I ride on the backs of lions
Perhaps this will help the cause
I will fight bravely only to come up short
where it truly matters
When all is said and done she will be mine
Time is the only obstacle
For now I will pause and pray
The doubt is present but the longing is too
Fate can be a cruel partner to gamble with
when all your cards are showing
The wondering mind says there are no guarantees
The amorous curse that has befallen
my head flies high
like a black bird calling in the night
Quothe the raven, kiss my ass 06/27/2002 Posted on 06/27/2002 Copyright © 2024 Corey Drover
