the extensive all-encompassing huge alarming promises of poets

by Emily G Myers

they promise so much, don't they?
poets...
they swear moments and forevers and castles
beauty that a girl's eyes could never fully take in
love that seeps from their hearts
faithfulness that would never ever vascilate
a pathway to walk on, constructed only of purest tears
a place to live where their dearest would always be content
hopes and dreams that would be fulfilled
swearing to live only for that one girl
for that one love
"forever"
"always"
"never"
"ever"
what an extensive vocabulary!
they sure do promise a lot
but how much could they fulfill?
how many could live up to their promises?
a poet's life is full of the holiest of oaths to love
but what of living a life that proves your pretty words?
and when your castle in the sky has a roach infestation?
and when the pathway of tears needs repairing?
and what happens when the hopes are crushed?
"forever"
"always"
"never"
"ever"
the promises of a poet
and the knowledge that they can't last "forever"
