My Car and I

by Anne Engelen

Driving for miles
my car and I become one

Pushing the pedals
shifting into gear
a cranked up radio is all I hear

Escape journeys,
blanking out every thought
Just hitting the roads
to find the freedom sought

It's a false sense of controll
that runs through my veins
Yet
I'm the master of my own headgames

But driving my car is a miraculous drug
With the windows down and the music up
the headgames seem to stop

I add a little speed
Go faster and faster
Finally
I start to feel
like I'm the real master

The master of my thoughts
The master of my life

All it takes
is just a little drive!
