Nightmare

by Teri T Lahmon

I dreamt I'd lost you
That your breathing was no longer
My sweet lullaby
That my nights were restless
Without your weight on my mattress.
I dreamt you'd left me
That my fears were realized
And my heart torn
Again.
I wept in my sleep
Called your name
Asking why have you left me so
Bereft
Bed deserted
My closet half empty
Too much space in my house...
I am still dreaming this nightmare
In the coldness of my mind
Where are you to wake me?
Too scoff at my silliness
And swear you'll never leave?

Wonderful writing. So vivid, I can see the tears on your pillow.
