The clouds have been here
For a few weeks now...
Perhaps I will have to wait
Until you're here for them
To let the Sun shine on me
Once again.

The green in the leaves
Of the trees is not as
Green as it would be if
You were here to illuminate
Them with your smile.

I'm sure your smile would
Make my eyes shine brighter too.
Today my heart is filling
With tears that may never
Reach my eyes, until the joy
Of your presence melts them.

Meanwhile, I find it difficult
To rescue the stranded words
That have been shipwrecked
On my soul. Perhaps I will
Never be able to let you know
Just how much I wish you
Were here to walk through
The evening light with me.

If my arms could reach
Across the ocean to where
You are, I would wrap them
Around you and not want
To let you go. But for now,
I have to be content with
Hoping my love is strong enough
To fly all the way to you,
And wrap around you instead.

My words, too, can reach you…
But somehow they never come out
Quite the way I intend.

Maybe, one day, they won't need to.
