Sea Spirit by Leonard M HawkesI watch the effortless
Dip and glide,
Avian flow unresisted,
Sea-grace,
Poetic motion,
With shadow too
Wavering
On mountain tarmack.
"And have you known
The sea?" I ask.
"And what geography
What compass,
What song of seasons
Brings you here
As oceanic gift
To these confines
Of igneous and pine,
O, white winged
Messenger of the foam?"
"Surely she's your home,
For I see Her image
Written upon your
Countenance." 06/12/2002 Author's Note: Parking lot, Flagg Ranch, WY
